After and Before
“I am interested in the places that language is deficient to describe; the point of focus where perhaps it is not clear,” Yon said in an interview, “Perceptions of place can alter according to mood, thoughts, memories, and time. It is partially the shifting of image meaning that drives this work. I have always been interested in contradictions and paradoxes. I would like for the senses to blur; to be able to taste a memory and see a scent. Sometimes I am looking at colors as musical notes, marks on surfaces as reference points, and horizon lines as desires. I want to create photographs that challenge the senses.” After & Before is an ongoing series of landscape images that pursue questions about place and relationship to it.
